Let’s Embrace Remote Work Today!

13 April 2020, Monday

Now working from home (WFH) is the new norm as we combat the Covid-19 pandemic. Many organisations have activated their Business Continuity Plans (BCP), asking employees to work remotely. During trying times like this, it is important to keep the staff happy and motivated.

Here are some ways to improve everyone’s morale as we continue to work as a closely knitted team.

1. Get Up-to-Date Company Message & News through Intranet
When you are not in the office, you may feel slightly detached from the company. And when it comes to company messaging, it is important to make sure we are keeping up to the latest happenings despite not being in the office.

2.  Stay Connected

The key to staying connected while working remotely is to spend time with one another. Communication and video conferencing tools like Microsoft Teams make it easier for teams to stay in touch, no matter where they are. The technology also enables opportunities for fun, from sharing GIFs to discussing mutual hobbies, which can help prevent isolation, burnout and even create a closer-knit culture.

Just sharing so you know – video calls are always better than voice calls as you can see body language and facial expressions during all remote meetings, and this will create a reassuring and comfortable connection between team members.

3. Keep Everyone in Check
Keep everyone in check

Taking some time off to do quick checks (project updates, task list) allow the team to keep in contact with one another and share updates on the progress.

4. Tips for a Successful Remote Conferencing: The Do’s & Don’ts

dont do

Remote conferencing tools have helped to improve the connection during this crucial time, we would like to share the Do’s and Don’ts to help enhance the overall experience of a remote conference:

DOs DON’Ts
Introduce yourself before you talk in a group call. Don’t be late, be on time
Always have an agenda so that attendees know what to expect Don’t check or read emails or peruse articles while on the call
Mute your microphone whenever you’re not speaking as background noise can be a distraction Do not do additional work beyond the call and paying full attention
Check if your microphone is unmuted when you are speaking Avoid showing the wrong presentation deck, make sure to check the conferencing tool before the actual meeting starts
Make sure your camera is at eye level when you plan to use for the conference Do not position your camera too low, too high or hooked onto a different monitor
